Curriculum
Most people learn about history at school or university. The History Council of NSW supports a strong history curriculum in schools. We also maintain a watching brief on history at the tertiary level. The commitment of universities to the teaching of history is important in developing in depth knowledge of history, as well as new and innovative research.

The National History Curriculum
The History Council of NSW strongly supports the introduction of a national history curriculum provided it is written in consultation with history teachers and provides a fair and balanced view of history. Detailed information about the National History Curriculum can be found at the History Teacher's Association of NSW. An Executive Summary of the Draft National History Curriculum can be found in the right hand column.
Australian National Geography and History Standards Statements
The Australian National Geography and History Standards Statements have been prepared as part of the Australian Learning and Teaching Council’s (ALTC) Learning and Teaching Academic Standards Project for the Department of Employment, Education and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). Small Reference Groups comprising discipline-nominated representatives have drew on international practice and local expertise to produce the draft Standards Statements. These define threshold (core/minimum) learning outcomes for Australian Bachelor degree graduates with a major in either Geography or History. The History Council of NSW's response to these documents can be found in the right hand column.
