The History Council of NSW believes the important role history plays in shaping our cultural and social landscape should be reflected in government legislation. The Council provides advice and submissions to government on how history can be incorporated into legislation where possible. Recent activities National Cultural Policy The Federal Minister for Arts, Peter Garrett AM, MP, announced the Australian Government's plan to create a National Cultural Policy in October 2009. The policy will reflect the important contribution the arts sector makes to the Australian community and reflects the ongoing support of the Australian Government, an initiave the History Council applauds. The Council believes that history and a vibrant history sector are integral to any cultural policy and in its submission has urged the government to consider this when creating the new framework. |
