During History Week 2016, Ashfield Library hosted City Historian at the City of Sydney Council, Dr Lisa Murray, for a unique talk given as part of our History Week Speaker Connect series. On Friday 9 September, Lisa explored the planning and design of Sydney’s cemeteries, an often under-appreciated aspect of our city’s urban history. From burial ground, to churchyard, to church cemetery and then general cemetery, Lisa revealed how the evolution of Sydney’s cemeteries demonstrated the implementation of a 19th century novelty in the colony.

Thanks to the staff at Ashfield Library, you can now listen to a recording of Lisa’s talk! Listen below.
