Macquarie 2010
|
In 1810 Lachlan Macquarie began his twelve year tenure as Governor of NSW. During that time Macquarie and his wife Elizabeth transformed the colony from a ramshackle town to the foundations of a nation. Throughout 2010 events will take place throughout NSW to mark the bicentenary of their arrival. More about these events can be found at the Macquarie 2010 website.
The History Council of NSW is marking Macquarie 2010 through a series of events titled Visions of Sydney, which we are co-hosting with the Historic Houses Trust. We are also running a special award for schools as part of the Minister's History Week Schools Award and co-publishing the Annual History Lecture 2009 with the State Library of NSW, delivered by the Chief Justice of NSW the Honorable JJ Spigelman AC on the Bigge Reports.
